Zelensky: Ukraine has already received NASAMS air defense systems from the US

President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky said that Ukraine had already received NASAMS anti-aircraft missile systems from the United States, the plans for the delivery of which the Pentagon announced a month ago.

“We absolutely need the United States to show leadership and transfer air defense systems to Ukraine. I want to thank President Biden and Congress for the positive decision that has already been approved. We received NASAMS,” Zelensky said in an interview with CBS . These systems are part of a new military aid package announced by the White House in August. At the same time, Zelensky noted that these systems are not enough to secure all Ukrainian cities.

On September 25, the head of Zelensky’s administration, Andriy Yermak, published a photo of the NASAMS system on his Telegram channel, but did not make any caption for this picture.

On August 26, the US Department of Defense announced that it had ordered two NASAMS batteries for Ukraine for $182 million from Raytheon Missiles & Defense, which makes the systems.

NASAMS (National Advanced Surface to Air Missile System) is a Norwegian-American medium-range anti-aircraft missile system (up to 50 km) capable of shooting down helicopters, drones, aircraft and cruise missiles.
