The authorities of North Ossetia have introduced a high alert regime due to the situation with multi-day traffic jams at the Upper Lars checkpoint. From September 28, entry into the territory of the republic is limited for cars with license plates of other Russian regions. The decree was signed by the head of North Ossetia, Sergei Menyailo.
“Restrict the entry of light motor vehicles into the territory of the Republic of North Ossetia-Alania, with the exception of motor vehicles registered in the Republic of North Ossetia-Alania, the Republic of South Ossetia, the Republic of Georgia and motor vehicles registered for citizens with a place of residence (stay) in the Republic of North Ossetia -Alania or under the control of persons permanently residing in the territory of the Republic of North Ossetia-Alania, ”the text of the decree says.
The reason was the catastrophic situation with traffic jams on the Russian-Georgian border. They stretched for more than 20 km. After Russian President Vladimir Putin announced a "partial" mobilization, the Russians went en masse, including to Georgia, Kazakhstan and Finland. Air tickets for the next flights to visa-free countries sold out in a few hours.
