US to provide Ukraine with new $1bn military aid package – Bloomberg

On September 28, the United States will announce the provision of a new $1 billion military aid package to Ukraine, Bloomberg reports , citing sources.

The money will be transferred to Kyiv as part of the Ukraine Security Assistance Initiative (USAI). This amount will allow Kyiv to purchase weapons from American defense contractors. Reuters claims the new aid package will also include HIMARS multiple launch rocket systems (MLRS), anti-drone capabilities, radar systems and spare parts.

The total volume of US military assistance to Ukraine will reach $16 billion from January 2021. A larger amount was sent after the invasion of the Russian Federation.

Earlier, Zelensky said that Ukraine had already received NASAMS anti-aircraft missile systems from the United States, the Pentagon announced plans to supply them a month ago. The US Department of Defense announced in August that it had ordered two NASAMS batteries for Ukraine from Raytheon Missiles & Defense for $182 million.

The mobilization announced by Vladimir Putin will not deprive Ukraine of the opportunity to liberate a significant part of the occupied territories this winter, analysts at the Institute for the Study of War (ISW) came to this conclusion. In their opinion, mobilization is unlikely to help increase the combat effectiveness of the Russian army, it can only compensate for the losses of the Russian Federation. Putin announced a "partial" mobilization in Russia on September 21, after which Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu promised to call up 300,000 "reservists". At the same time, they are going to send people to the war who, according to the law, should not fall under “partial” mobilization. For example, in the Chelyabinsk region on September 26, a student was mobilized with a whole range of diseases: pancreatitis, rhinitis, prostatitis, varicose veins and hemorrhoids.
