Russian consulate in Montenegro closed indefinitely after anti-spy operation in the country

The work of the consular department of the Russian Embassy in Montenegro has been suspended for an indefinite period. Judging by the official statements of the Russian side, this happened "in connection with the hostile actions of the Montenegrin authorities."

Now diplomats recommend that Russians in Montenegro apply for consular services at Russian embassies in other countries.

On September 29, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Montenegro declared six Russian diplomats persona non grata. The Montenegrin publication Vesti reported that the largest, according to local authorities, anti-spy operation in history has unfolded in the country: six Russian diplomats, several Russian citizens, and two Montenegrin citizens are under investigation on suspicion of working for Russian intelligence. Among the suspects was the former press secretary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Montenegro, Radomir Sekulovich.
