In Burkina Faso, a military group overthrew President Paul-Henri Damiba in a coup. He came to power only in January, also as a result of a military coup.
Captain Ibrahim Traore, 34, was proclaimed the new leader of Burkina Faso. Accompanied by several military men, he seized the air of the local TV channel and stated that Damiba was unable to resolve issues with the Islamists. For the same reason, Damiba ousted former President Roca Kabore in January.
Traore dissolved the government of Burkina Faso, suspended the constitution, and ordered the closure of the borders. Damiba's whereabouts are unknown.
American intelligence believes that Burkina Faso could be the next target for Wagner PMCs. The department claims that this is a consequence of the January military coup, due to which the country became more isolated and insecure.
