La Repubblica: NATO intelligence warned allies about a possible launch by Russia of the Poseidon nuclear super-torpedo from the Belgorod submarine

NATO intelligence sent out a report on the movements of the Belgorod submarine to the most important allies. As the Italian newspaper La Repubblica writes , intelligence fears that the Poseidon super-torpedo, which is called the "weapon of the apocalypse", can be launched from the nuclear submarine. The torpedo is equipped with a nuclear warhead and is capable of causing a "radioactive tsunami", the newspaper notes. Experts compare the effect of its launch with the launch of an intercontinental ballistic missile.

La Repubblic writes that the US-built infrared sensor systems to track missile launches will be useless in the case of the Poseidon, since the "super torpedo" is designed to radiate very little heat. It moves silently at speeds of more than 100 km/h,” notes La Repubblica.

The Belgorod submarine was launched in Severodvinsk in 2019. In the summer of 2022, the Russian Navy received the first submarine. The 184-meter submarine "Belgorod" is the longest of the existing submarines, CNN previously reported . Its length exceeds even the size of American Ohio-class submarines (171 meters). These submarines are part of the US strategic nuclear forces. The Russian boat has been lengthened "to accommodate the world's first nuclear-armed torpedoes and intelligence-gathering equipment," CNN notes.

Nuclear torpedoes "Poseidon" are called "doomsday" weapons. They became known after the presentation page of the project, then still called Status-6, was “accidentally” shown on Russian television in 2015.

However, as US intelligence agencies found out , the "leak" was deliberate. US officials said the display of the nuclear torpedo was part of a plan to discourage the US from deploying missile defenses in Europe.
TASS wrote that "Poseidon" can carry a nuclear warhead with a capacity of up to 2 megatons. This is 100 times more than the bomb dropped on Hiroshima, and 10 times more than the latest version of the B61 nuclear bomb developed in the United States.

Russian propagandists like to use Poseidon to threaten the West. So on May 1, 2022, Dmitry Kiselev threatened to destroy Britain.
