“It is strange to demand a blow to the legal community.” Inozemtsev on FBK’s request to the EU to impose sanctions against the Federal Chamber of Lawyers

The European Commission intends to approve the eighth package of EU sanctions against Russia, including personal sanctions against administrative persons and propagandists who supported the "referenda" in the annexed regions of Ukraine. Doctor of Economics, director of the Center for Post-Industrial Society Research Vladislav Inozemtsev told The Insider that the Anti-Corruption Foundation (FBK) proposes to include the leadership of the Federal Chamber of Lawyers, in particular, Igor Mikhailovich, Alexei Galoganov and Yuri Pilipenko, on the sanctions list . However, according to Inozemtsev, it is not necessary to impose sanctions against these persons, since not all members of the Chamber of Advocates are "friends of the regime."

The lawyers listed in the list, according to Inozemtsev, are indicated as advising the authorities of the "new subjects of the Russian Federation" on the current Russian legislation.

“In my opinion, such a measure is erroneous. I myself once spoke about the increasing servility of the leadership of the FPA and noted that in the Russian legal community there is a demand for self-organization outside the framework of this bureaucratic structure. However, in a situation where the Russian authorities are openly preventing the work of at least some independent lawyers, threatening them with criminal prosecution even for consulting on methods to legally avoid mobilization, it is rather strange to demand a blow to the legal community from the other side as well.

Unlike fellow lawyers (for example, from the Constitutional Court, who approved the decision to include new regions in Russia, which was disastrous for the country), the Federal Chamber of Lawyers issued an open letter condemning military operations in Ukraine in the early days of Russian aggression , and its members defended and today defend dozens of citizens accused under the article on “discrediting” the Russian army. The activities of the leadership of the chamber, no matter how much criticism it deserves, allows you to maintain the structure of the Russian legal community that was established back in the 2000s, which the Ministry of Justice has long been striving to break, wanting to turn lawyers into dumb civil servants.

The FBK and associates of Alexei Navalny are doing important work, pointing out to Western politicians the most zealous adherents of the Putin regime (I myself also offered my own “lists”, believing that one should not ignore, for example, the “scientists” who created the modern Putin’s concept of foreign policy – P. Shchedrovitsky , S. Karaganova, F. Lukyanov, D. Trenin, D. Suslov and many others). But with regard to lawyers who play a rather positive role in modern Russian society and are themselves the targets of numerous attacks by the regime, I would be as careful as possible.”

On October 3, the State Duma voted for the accession to Russia of the "DNR" and "LNR", as well as the partially occupied Kherson and Zaporozhye regions. At the same time, more deputies voted for the accession of new regions to Russia than were present in the hall. Commenting on the results, State Duma Speaker Vyacheslav Volodin admitted that there had been a "technical failure."
