Lithuania has declared Russian Chargé d'Affaires Sergei Ryabokon persona non grata. After that, the Russian Foreign Ministry said that Russia was preparing a response to these actions.
Ryabokon has been declared an undesirable person in Lithuania and must leave the country within five days.
“The actions and statements of Sergei Ryabokon are incompatible with the status of a diplomat, can be regarded as interference in the internal affairs of the host state and therefore are considered a violation of the Vienna Convention on Diplomatic Relations,” the Lithuanian Foreign Ministry said in a statement.
The decision to expel Ryabokon means that Russia will have to appoint a new head of the embassy in Lithuania, Delfi notes .
In August, Lithuania already handed a note of protest to Ryabokon for his comments about the 1991 clashes in Vilnius.
