The European Union will allocate another five billion euros to Ukraine by the end of 2022

The European Union signed a Memorandum of Understanding and Financial Assistance with Ukraine, under which Ukraine will be allocated another five billion euros by the end of 2022 for urgent needs, including the payment of salaries and pensions. This was stated by the Deputy Head of the European Commission Valdis Dombrovskis.

According to Dombrovskis, the EU will provide the first part in mid-October, and send the next two parts later, before the end of the year.

Prime Minister of Ukraine Denys Shmyhal thanked the European Commission for the decision, calling the assistance a gesture from the EU that will support Ukraine in the war and the pursuit of a European future.

Earlier it was reported that the governments of Denmark, Norway and Germany will donate about 92 million euros for Slovak howitzers for Ukraine. At the expense of these funds, 16 Zuzana 2 self-propelled artillery mounts will be manufactured in Slovakia. Before that, in September it became known that Ukraine would receive assistance from the European Investment Bank in the amount of €550 million. On September 28, Bloomberg reported that the United States would provide Ukraine with a new $1 billion military aid package for weapons that the country could purchase from US defense contractors. The aid package will include HIMARS MLRS, anti-drone weapons, radar systems and spare parts, Reuters reported. The total volume of US military assistance to Ukraine will reach $16 billion from January 2021.
