Former Real Madrid and Spain goalkeeper Iker Casillas came out. He later deleted his tweet

The world football champion in the Spanish national team, the former goalkeeper of Real Madrid Iker Casillas came out.

“I hope you show me some respect. I'm gay," the ex-Spain goalkeeper tweeted.

Casillas' former international teammate, ex-Barcelona defender Carles Puyol responded to the tweet with: "It's time to tell our story, Iker."

Update: Casillas later deleted his tweet.

In 2009, Casillas began dating Spanish TV presenter Sarah Carbonero. On March 20, 2016, they got married. They had two sons, in 2021 the couple announced a divorce.

Casillas, 41, is considered one of the best goalkeepers of all time. In 2019, he suffered a myocardial infarction, in 2020 he retired.
