Novosibirsk policemen were given up to 4 years in prison for torturing a detainee and extortion

The Zaeltsovsky District Court of Novosibirsk found Khalid Shamiev and Kirill Semashko, officers of the patrol service of the linear department of the transport police, guilty of torture (abuse of power, part 3 of article 286 of the Criminal Code) and extortion (part 2 of article 163 of the Criminal Code). The court sentenced them to terms of 3.5 to 4 years in a penal colony. It is reported by Taiga.Info.

According to the investigation, on August 4, 2021, the police detained a man who was suspected of selling drugs. They did not find drugs on him, but they beat the detainee and extorted a million rubles from him in exchange for freedom. Then they reduced the amount to 300 thousand rubles and let the man go to collect money. He turned to the internal security service of the Ministry of Internal Affairs, and the suspects were detained.

The police confessed to extortion, but not to torture.

The court sentenced Shamiev to four years in a penal colony, Semashko to 3.5 years. They were also deprived of the right to hold positions in law enforcement agencies for two years.
