“We can explain”: all employees of the “Discovery” remotely will be called to return to Russia in a day or fired

The structures of the Russian bank Otkritie ( Financial Corporation Otkritie ) will call on all employees who work remotely from other countries to return to Russia within 24 hours or disable access, which will mean dismissal. This is reported in the Telegram channel by the project "We can explain" with reference to a source in the division of the bank "Opening Broker".

It does not matter if the employee is from a “friendly” country or not. The demand, according to the interlocutor, is planned to be announced on Friday, October 14. It will also apply to employees from IT departments.

"All back – or they will cut off the connection to the resources of the bank, which the IT departments are working on."

The report also states that since the start of the war, the number of Otkritie employees working abroad has increased significantly.

Otkritie Bank is included in the list of backbone credit institutions approved by the President. On February 24, Otkritie was among the banks that fell under US blocking sanctions due to the war in Ukraine. Canada and the European Union have also imposed sanctions on the organization.

In June, Russian Deputy Interior Minister Igor Zubov acknowledged that Russia is experiencing a shortage of 170,000 IT specialists who left the country en masse due to the sanctions imposed after the start of the war in Ukraine. In total, 1 million people are employed in the industry, Zubov noted. At the end of March, Russian Prime Minister Mikhail Mishustin signed a government decree on the procedure for deferment from military service for IT specialists, however, as practice shows, some of them still receive subpoenas. In September, Sota, citing lawyer Anton Timchenko, reported that Krasnodar IT specialist Vasily Malinochka was mobilized as a shooter, despite his strabismus and the fact that he formally falls under the Ministry of Digital Protection.
