The head of EU diplomacy, Josep Borrell, said that the West's response to a potential nuclear strike on Ukraine would not be nuclear, but it would be very powerful from a military point of view and "lead to the destruction of the Russian army" (quoted by TASS and Reuters ).
“There is a nuclear threat and Putin says he is not bluffing. Well, he can't afford to bluff. It should be clear: people who support Ukraine, the EU, member states, the US, NATO are not bluffing either. Any nuclear attack against Ukraine will create a response. Not a nuclear response, but a powerful military response,” Borrell said.
In turn, French President Emmanuel Macron also said that France would not use nuclear weapons against Russia if it launched a nuclear strike on Ukraine:
“Our doctrine is based on the fundamental interests of the nation, and they are very clearly defined. If a nuclear missile attack had been carried out on Ukraine, these interests would not have been called into question.”
