Iran plans to strengthen its obligations to supply weapons to Russia, writes The Washington Post, citing US security officials and their allies.
The new deliveries of Iranian weapons, which Russia is going to use in the war against Ukraine, will include surface-to-surface missiles. These will be the first missiles delivered by Iran to Russia. We are talking about Fateh-110 and Zolfaghar, short-range ballistic missiles. They are capable of hitting targets at 300 and 700 kilometers, respectively.
Iran has previously supplied the same missiles to militia groups in the Middle East, most notably the Houthis in Yemen. They have used them in attacks on oil refineries and other civilian targets in neighboring Gulf states.
In addition, Iran is preparing new deliveries of drones for Russia – dozens of Mohajer-6 and more Shahed-136, writes WP. It is noteworthy that earlier the Iranian Foreign Ministry denied that it had ever supplied or would supply Russia with kamikaze drones.
“We believe that assistance in arming any of the parties to the conflict will prolong the war, therefore we did not consider and do not consider wars in Ukraine, Afghanistan, Syria and Yemen to be correct,” CNN quotes Iranian Foreign Minister Hossein Amir-Abdollahian.
