Russia shelled Dnepropetrovsk, Odessa, Mykolaiv, Zaporozhye and Sumy regions – Ukrainian authorities

Russia on the night of October 17 and in the morning shelled the Dnepropetrovsk, Odessa, Nikolaev, Zaporozhye and Sumy regions of Ukraine. Messages are published on social networks by local authorities and Ukrainian publications.

The head of the regional military administration (OVA) of the Sumy region, Dmitry Zhivitsky , announced on his Telegram channel about the strike on "critical infrastructure facilities." According to him, the blow was inflicted in the Romensky district. There are victims, the details are specified.

The speaker of the Odesa OVA Serhiy Bratchuk also reported about the missile attack. According to him, in the Odessa region, the Russian Federation launched a missile strike from the Black Sea, one of the infrastructure facilities was hit, there were no casualties.

"For this, the enemy used the Su-35 aircraft, from which the X-59 missile was fired."

The Ukrainian edition of Strana published a video showing a column of smoke. According to journalists, the video was filmed in the suburbs of Odessa.

The head of the Kharkiv OVA Oleg Sinegubov said that the region had been subjected to Russian shelling from mortars, rocket and cannon artillery over the past 24 hours.

“In particular, the city of Volchansk in the Chuguevsky district and the villages of the Volchansky community, the urban-type settlements of Dvorochnoye in the Kupyansky district, Kazachya Lopan in the Kharkiv region and others were hit. As a result of the shelling, fires broke out in non-residential buildings.”

A 45-year-old woman died because of the shelling of Lukyantsev. In the village of Solonitsevka, a 47-year-old woman was hospitalized with injuries, and in the Kupyansky district, a 69-year-old man was hospitalized. In the Izyum district, 2 people turned to doctors – a 54-year-old man and his 16-year-old son, who had previously been injured.

According to him, during the day, the pyrotechnics of the State Emergency Service neutralized 630 explosive objects in the region.

The head of the OVA of the Dnepropetrovsk region, Valentin Reznichenko, wrote on Telegram that Russian troops had been shelling the region with rockets, Grads and heavy artillery all night. According to him, "one rocket hit the energy infrastructure facility", a fire started. About 30 explosions occurred in the Nikopol district.

“Three enemy missiles were destroyed by our air defense forces. The Russian occupation troops covered the Nikopol region with fire from Grads and heavy artillery. More than 30 enemy shells flew there. Houses were damaged in the Marganets and Krasnogrigoryevsk communities. Initially, no one was hurt."

Energy company Yasno reported emergency power outages in Dnipro and the Dnipropetrovsk region. The company's CEO Sergei Kovalenko urged residents to limit the use of energy-intensive appliances, the message was posted on Facebook:

“Unfortunately, the enemy continues to fire at energy infrastructure facilities and cause destruction. To eliminate damage and balance the energy system, power outages will occur in Dnipro and the region today.”

Propaganda military commissar Yuriy Kotenok said that a "series of attacks on targets" were carried out at night in Kyiv, Odessa, Sumy and Dnepropetrovsk regions. He claims that drones have worked out massively in Kyiv, as a result, “the building of Ukrenergo and the railway station area have been hit.” The information has not been officially confirmed.

The company "Ukrzaliznytsia" reported that all trains depart and arrive in the capital on schedule. Passengers are asked to wait for the flight in underground shelters.

The Ukrainian company Energoatom published a statement on the morning of October 17 following the results of the shelling. The company's Telegram channel claims that as a result of shelling by the Russian military at the Zaporozhye nuclear power plant, the last line of communication with the power grid was disconnected. The text also says that Russia has changed tactics and is trying to "blackmail Ukraine and the whole world with rocket attacks on substations" that power the nuclear power plant.

“On October 17, Russian terrorists once again fired at substations of critical infrastructure in the territory controlled by Ukraine, as a result of which, at 03:59, the last 750 kV ZNPP communication line, Dniprovska, was disconnected. In addition, the 750 kV communication line of the South Ukrainian NPP – Dniprovska was disconnected, but without affecting the load.

On the evening of October 16, Nikolaev was attacked by kamikaze drones, tanks with sunflower oil caught fire there, a fire broke out in a pharmaceutical warehouse, the mayor's office reported.

Kyiv on the morning of October 17 was subjected to a massive attack by kamikaze drones, Mayor Vitali Klitschko reported. A fire broke out in a non-residential building in the Shevchenko district, explosions were heard in the city in the morning. As in previous attacks, the ammunition, the photo of which was published by Klitschko, was disguised as a certain "Geran-2". This is not the first time Russia has used such drones to strike Ukrainian cities. In September, drones with the Russian name "Geran-2" attacked Odessa several times. This is probably the Iranian Shahed-136 loitering ammunition. For the first time, the Armed Forces of Ukraine shot down such a drone on September 13 near Kupyansk. Even then, pro-Russian Telegram channels confirmed that kamikaze drones purchased in Iran or assembled under an Iranian license could go into battle.

On the morning of October 10, Russia launched a massive shelling of Ukraine. Deputy Defense Minister Anna Malyar, citing the General Staff, said that 83 missiles were fired at cities, 43 of them shot down air defense systems. As a result of the shelling, 11 people were killed and 87 were injured.
