The occupation authorities of Mariupol dismantled the memorial "To the Victims of the Holodomor", installed in the city center 18 years ago, RIA Novosti reports .
“According to historical sources, the famine covered the southern regions of Russia, and then the Soviet Union every few decades. It was not Ukraine or Donbass that suffered the most from the famine of 1932-33 – Kazakhstan, the Volga region, and the North Caucasus suffered the most, ”said Artem Bobrovsky, head of the department of Donetsk National University, who was present during the dismantling.
“We are not demolishing a monument, but a symbol of political disinformation… While teaching the history of Ukraine, the idea of ‘genocide’ and ‘Holodomor’ was imposed on us… Nobody in the textbooks and none of the teachers described what really happened. Unfortunately, all this was hidden not only from schoolchildren, but also from their parents, ”Yevgenia Krotova, a representative of the central headquarters of the Young Republic public organization, told the agency.
According to various sources, in 1932-1933 from 2.2 to 3.9 million Ukrainians died of starvation. In 2006, the law of Ukraine recognized the Holodomor as genocide of the Ukrainian people.
