The Tomsk Regional Court found the physicist Alexander Lukanin guilty of treason (Article 275 of the Criminal Code) and sentenced him to 7.5 years in a strict regime colony. This was reported by Interfax with reference to the press service of the court.
Lukanin was also sentenced to restriction of freedom for two years (after a term in a colony).
Lukanin was detained by the FSB on September 30, 2020 in Tomsk. The physicist worked and lived in China, but due to the coronavirus epidemic, he stayed in Russia. After his arrest, he disappeared for several days, his relatives were looking for him everywhere. Officially, the special service did not report the arrest. Some time later, Lukanin was found by members of the PMC of Moscow in the Moscow Lefortovo pre-trial detention center.
Interfax, citing a source, reported that the scientist "is suspected of trying to illegally transfer Russian technology to one of the foreign countries."
Lukanin's colleagues from China said that he could not have anything to do with state secrets.
The consideration of the Lukanin case in court began on July 13, 2022.
