Former UK Treasury Secretary Rishi Sunak, 42, has been appointed Prime Minister by King Charles III. The broadcast was hosted by The Times.
Rishi Sunak left Buckingham Palace after meeting with the king.
According to the publication, Charles received the new prime minister in the 1844 room, where the ceremony took place 49 days ago in which Queen Elizabeth II appointed Liz Truss as prime minister.
On October 24, Sunak was reported to be the only candidate for prime minister as House of Commons leader Penny Mordaunt dropped out of the race of her own accord. Boris Johnson declined to run for Conservative Party leader and prime minister after Prime Minister Liz Truss announced her resignation on October 20. She stayed in office for only 45 days, setting an anti-record for the duration of the premiership in the history of the country.
In July, the Financial Times reported that Johnson's supporters would prevent Sunak from taking the premiership. According to the publication, officials accuse Sunak of instigating Johnson's premature departure – after Sunak and Health Minister Sajid Javid resigned, after them more than 50 officials left the government. Two days later, Johnson announced that he was resigning.
