The first criminal case on the unauthorized abandonment of the unit by the mobilized was opened in Russia, said lawyer and human rights activist Pavel Chikov. The accused was a resident of Yakutia.

We are talking about part 3.1 of article 337 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation. It was introduced into the Russian Criminal Code on September 24 in a package of "mobilization" amendments. This part is punishable by up to five years in prison.

It is alleged that the person involved in the case was called up for mobilization and arbitrarily left the military unit in Buryatia, where he was sent from the military registration and enlistment office. He told the commander that "he will not go to any Ukraine, he will not shoot at any Ukrainians."

According to him, after that he was threatened with reprisals and criminal liability. He escaped from the unit through a hole in the fence.

Pavel Chikov published a decision to initiate proceedings.
