The US Department of Defense has successfully tested the components of a hypersonic weapon. It is reported by Reuters.
The publication says the US Navy and Army launched the rocket from a coastal launch site in Virginia to conduct more than a dozen experiments. As part of the tests, the navigation equipment and communication performance of hypersonic weapons were evaluated, as well as "advanced materials" that are resistant to heat in a "realistic hypersonic environment." The publication says that the United States has accelerated the pace of creating hypersonic weapons.
Prior to this, the Pentagon conducted a successful test of hypersonic weapons in July. The device, manufactured by Raytheon Technologies Corp., whose class was not specified, exceeded the speed of sound five times during a flight test.
