New British Prime Minister Rishi Sunak had a telephone conversation with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky. As the Ukrainian leader said on his Telegram channel, he appreciates that the prime minister's first official call was made to Ukraine.
According to Zelensky, during a conversation with Sunak, they agreed to "write a new chapter of Ukrainian-British relations."
“However, the plot is unchanged – full support in the face of Russian aggression. I am forever grateful to the people of Great Britain for their support."
Zelensky also invited Sunak to Ukraine.
In September, Zelenskiy became the first foreign leader to speak on the phone with newly appointed British Prime Minister Liz Truss. During the call, he also invited Truss to Ukraine and thanked Britain for the great defense and economic assistance.
On October 25, King Charles III of Great Britain appointed the former head of the Ministry of Finance, 42-year-old Rishi Sunak, as prime minister. The day before, it was reported that Sunak remained the only candidate for prime minister, as the leader of the House of Commons, Penny Mordaunt, dropped out of the race of her own accord. Boris Johnson declined to run for Conservative Party leader and prime minister after Prime Minister Liz Truss announced her resignation on October 20. She stayed in office for only 45 days, setting an anti-record for the duration of the premiership in the history of the country.
