The Kemerovo Regional Drama Theater named after Lunacharsky pasted on the poster the name of director Rimas Tuminas, who spoke out against the war. Sibir.Realii drew attention to this.
One of the viewers of War and Peace by Tuminas writes that the name of the director on the playbill of the production is pasted over with white paper. On the website of the drama theater, his name is also not indicated. Elena Sitkina, deputy director for the organization of the theater spectator, told Sibir.Realiyam that this was an “order from above”:
"No comment! We are not allowed to comment on this topic. Don't you know who the director is? Well, you know, why ask then? But we didn't put it on. This is an order from above. No, not the Moscow theater. Higher. Yes, Ministry of Culture.
In May, Tuminas left the post of artistic director of the Moscow Vakhtangov Theatre. Shortly before this, pranksters Vovan and Lexus published a recording in which the director allegedly agreed to stage a play about Stepan Bandera. Tuminas stated that the recording was edited.
In mid-September, the Vakhtangov Theater canceled screenings of Tuminas' War and Peace at the Alexandrinsky Theatre. As RBC writes with reference to a letter from the director of the Vakhtangov Theater Kirill Krok to the director of Aleksandrinsky Sergei Yemelyanov, this decision was made "due to technical reasons." In the Vakhtangov Theater itself, Tuminas' play "The Wind Noises in the Poplars" was canceled without explanation.
