“They beat me on the heels, tortured me with a stun gun.” Prisoners of the Angarsk IK-2 opened their veins due to mass torture

Prisoners of correctional colony No. 2 of Angarsk massively opened their veins due to torture and beatings in the punishment cell (SHIZO) and the Unified Cell-Type Premises (EPKT), where delinquent, according to the administration of the Federal Penitentiary Service, prisoners are sent. This was told to The Insider by a source close to the colony.

According to the interlocutor, on October 25 in the evening, convicts from the third barrack were beaten in the ShIZO and EPKT premises. “They beat me on the heels, tortured me with a stun gun,” the source claims. After that, the prisoners opened their veins in protest. The interlocutor noted that recently torture and beatings have become commonplace in the colony.

This is confirmed by another The Insider source from among the newly released prisoners:

“Recently, the leadership of the colony has been treating convicts more harshly than the rules of the regime require. They are required to write applications for the issuance of money from a personal account. They walk on personal things (step on them). They beat convicts transferred from IK-4. They make the same demands on those who are usually in the barracks as if they were in the EKPT.

The feeling that no one can find justice for the leadership of the colony. Some of the convicts approached the leadership and tried to talk like that with people. They say that we are doing our job, and no one will do anything to us now for this, because “you don’t see what is happening in the country.”

In the fall of 2021, it became known that prison wardens from the Angarsk colony No. 15, where in the spring of 2020 the convicts staged one of the largest camp riots in history, changed jobs and settled in IK-2. Novaya Gazeta wrote that shortly after the arrival of new jailers, the prisoners of IK-2 went on a hunger strike, protesting against beatings and torture.

The human rights project Gulagu.net also reported on torture in IK-2 last autumn, citing the Federal Penitentiary Service. “Prisoners are humiliated on a formal occasion, stripped naked, beaten, handcuffed, dragged across the floor and beaten in the supply room,” human rights activists wrote. According to them, only in September 2021, two people died in IK-2, but this was not included in the official statistics.

Earlier, The Insider wrote about torture in the Krasnoyarsk EPKT-31, where convicts who violate the terms of the order are brought from all over the Krasnoyarsk Territory, and about the employees of the Federal Penitentiary Service who are responsible for this.
