The UK will stop importing Russian liquefied natural gas from January 1, 2023. This is stated in the message of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Kingdom.
Norway is the largest gas exporter to the country. About 17% of imports are gas supplies from Qatar, the USA and the Russian Federation.
In 2021, the UK imported 3.12 billion cubic meters. m of Russian gas – 4% of total gas consumption.
In June, the UK for the first time completely refused to import Russian energy products. The BBC, citing the British National Statistical Service (ONS), reported that imports of other goods from Russia also fell to 33 million pounds (39 million dollars) and reached the lowest level since January 1997.
Due to Russian aggression in Ukraine, the US imposed a complete ban on the import of Russian gas and oil. The UK also promised to completely stop importing Russian oil by the end of the year and stop buying Russian gas as soon as possible.
