David DePape, accused of assaulting the husband of US House Speaker Nancy Pelosi Paul Pelosi, turned out to be a supporter of the 45th US President Donald Trump and a fan of conspiracy theories. This was brought to the attention of CNN.
In particular, DePape posted on his Facebook page conspiracy theories about coronavirus vaccinations, the 2020 elections, and the attack on the Capitol that took place on January 6, 2021, as well as anti-Semitic statements. One of the acquaintances of the man in a conversation with CNN called him "suffering from megalomania and therefore out of touch with reality."
Pelosi, 82, was attacked on Friday, October 28 at his own home in San Francisco. According to US President Joe Biden, during the entry into the house and the attack, DePape said "Where's Nancy?". The same exclamation was used by Trump supporters when they took over the Capitol.
DePape hit Pelosi with a hammer. Nancy Pelosi's press secretary, Drew Hammill, said her husband suffered skull fractures and other serious injuries and underwent surgery. He is expected to fully recover. DePape managed to be detained – he will probably appear in court on Tuesday.
