In 2020, Sergei Serbezov, who came to Russia from the Odessa region, was sentenced to 9 years and 9 months in a penal colony. According to his wife, for the sale of drugs (Article 228 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation). After the start of the war, IK-10 was visited by recruiters from the Wagner PMC. They told the prisoners that they would go to war anyway, whether they wanted to or not.
After that, Sergey stopped communicating. The prisoner whose phone he used told his wife that he was in the ShIZO and would be able to contact her on 31 September. However, Sergei did this a few days earlier: he told his wife that on September 28 he would be taken to the front. “They said that either he would go in handcuffs, or he would be beaten right there on the spot,” she told The Insider.
On October 15, the woman received a text message saying that her husband had been shot as a deserter. His sister wrote a message to the same number asking where to pick up the corpse and how to identify it. In response, they demanded money from her for the burial address and the number of people who know about it.
In mid-October, Russian senators drafted a bill that would allow prisoners to legally go to war and be released from punishment if they "show courage and heroism in military service." Until the end of hostilities, they will be granted a reprieve from punishment, and in case of "success" they can be released from the remaining term.
