Singer Jerry Lee Lewis dies

Singer Jerry Lee Lewis has died at the age of 87. This was announced by his publicist Zach Farnum.

“He was there in the beginning, with Elvis, Johnny Cash, Chuck Berry, Little Richard, Carl Perkins, Fats Domino, Buddy Holly and the rest, and watched them disappear one by one until he alone witnessed and sang the birth rock and roll,” he said.

According to Farnum, Lewis has suffered from various illnesses in recent years. He added that shortly before his death, the musician's wife said: "He's ready to go." Lewis died at his home in DeSoto, Mississippi. He was one of the founders and main stars of rock and roll. His hits include Whole Lotta Shakin' Goin On, Great Balls of Fire, Breathless and more.
