Zvezda: exhibition and lecture on repressions canceled in Perm by order from above

In Perm, an exhibition and a lecture by the Center for Historical Memory dedicated to repressions in the USSR were canceled. This was reported by the Telegram channel "Zvezda".

Traveling exhibition “Prikamye. Repression. 1930–50s.” and a public lecture "To make white spots disappear" were to be held in the Pushkin Library at the end of October. A week before the start, the library canceled both events. The head of the Center for Historical Memory, Alexander Chernyshev, told Zvezda that the library director “had a call from above and was asked to remove all events by order.”

Chernyshev believes that the decision to cancel is connected with the “foreign agency” of Memorial. The organization created exhibitions about repressions, but they are held by the Center for Historical Memory. The latter's website also states that the web resource previously belonged to the Perm branch of Memorial, but was transferred to the Center for Historical Memory.

The city department of culture told Zvezda that the Center for Historical Memory itself was to blame for the cancellation of the events: “In order to hold an event in the municipal library, an appropriate agreement must be concluded with the organizer of the event, changes were made to the work plan of the OMB, announcements and a poster were posted about the planned event. No proposals have been received from the initiators of the event.”
