The German military counterintelligence service (MAD) reported that the activity of foreign intelligence services has increased in the country.
MAD President Martina Rosenberg stressed in an interview with the dpa that this also increased the level of threat to the Bundeswehr. According to her, foreign intelligence services, funded by states, use all resources to obtain information and realize the interests of their countries.
Rosenberg said that Germany should pay special attention to the work of Russian and Chinese intelligence agencies. She recalled that several attempts to spy on state military facilities have recently been recorded in the country. In particular, drones were seen over the center where the Ukrainian military trains. At the same time, MAD notes that espionage activity increased even before the start of the war.
In recent months, cases of detention of Russians suspected of spying on government facilities have become more frequent in Europe. So, in Norway, six people were detained on different days. One of them was found to have photographs from Norway showing a military helicopter.
