UN agrees with Turkey and Ukraine to move 16 vessels with grain along the humanitarian corridor

The UN said it had agreed with Turkey and Ukraine on a plan to move 16 vessels in the Black Sea as part of a "grain deal", Reuters reported.

The Istanbul Joint Focal Point said in a statement that the parties also agreed to inspect 40 sailing ships on October 31.

Russia was informed about these plans.

On October 30, Russia suspended its participation in the "grain deal", which allows grain to be exported from Ukrainian ports. The reason for this, Russia called the massive air and sea strikes on the ships of the Russian Federation that were on duty in the area of the "grain corridor".

The European Union and the United States called on Russia to reconsider its decision.

The day before, Ukraine announced that it was forced to suspend grain exports. According to the Minister of Infrastructure of Ukraine Oleksandr Kubrakov, because of this, dry cargo ship Ikaria Angel got stuck in the port of Odessa. The ship, chartered by the UN under the World Food Programme, was supposed to send 40,000 tons of grain to Ethiopia.

“These products were intended for Ethiopians who are on the verge of starvation. But due to the blocking of the “grain corridor” by Russia, export is impossible,” Kubrakov wrote.
