Italy, Germany and Austria this year for the first time did not support the Russian resolution on the fight against the glorification of Nazism, said Lukyantsev, authorized representative of the Russian Foreign Ministry for human rights.
The UN General Assembly adopts a resolution every year, the vote will take place in December. On Friday, the document was approved by the Third Committee of the General Assembly, while 51 countries opposed it.
According to Lukyantsev, the representatives of Germany, Italy and Austria had previously sworn that they “would never, for reasons of principle, be able to vote against” such a document, “but, apparently, political considerations prevailed.”
