The Wall Street Journal writes, citing sources, that Biden’s national security adviser Sullivan has been in confidential talks in recent months with Putin’s aide Ushakov and Secretary of the Russian Security Council Patrushev.

It is argued that the purpose of the talks was to prevent the escalation of the conflict in Ukraine, including the threat of the use of nuclear weapons.

According to sources, Sullivan’s desire for contacts with Russia does not find support among other high-ranking politicians in the United States, who do not consider such interaction productive in the current conditions.

The newspaper also writes that Sullivan, in a dialogue with Kyiv, called for sending an open signal about readiness for a settlement with Moscow.

Prior to this, the WSJ wrote that Western countries are privately discussing possible peace terms between Russia and Ukraine, and the Biden administration is asking Kyiv to show openness to negotiations with Moscow.
