US midterm elections to be held today

▪️ In the House of Representatives, the struggle for all 435 seats, in the Senate – for 35 out of 100. Polls promise that Biden and his Democrats lose control at least above the lower chamber.

▪️ Updated congress Starts January 3rd and until then will continue to function under the leadership of the Democrats.

▪️ The loss of Congress hobbles the second half of Biden’s presidency, many things become possible – from “shutdowns” (“closing the government”) to launching an impeachment. Trillion-dollar bills and immunity from political attack will be a thing of the past.

▪️ The Republican Congress will apparently wind down the anti-Trump investigation into the storming of the Capitol and, possibly, will check the foreign business connections of Biden’s son Hunter. It is possible that it will come to impeachment but removing Biden is likely to stumble over the Republicans’ lack of a two-thirds majority in the Senate.

▪️ A number of Republican candidates question the justification for a large-scale aid to Ukraine. In this regard, the Democrats are considering the possibility of allocating another $ 50 billion to Kyiv before the change of power in Congress.

▪️ Political scientists believe that the main prerequisite for a republican revenge is dissatisfaction with the state of the economy – a record inflation in 40 years, the risk of a recession, higher lending rates and rising unemployment.

▪️ The first sections will open at 5 am (13 Moscow time). More than 40 million of the nearly 170 million registered voters have already voted early, in person or by mail.

▪️ The night and even several days after the election may not reveal the winner, especially where the candidates will go side by side. Due to the peculiarities of the processing of mail-in ballots, “blue or red mirages” are possible – a temporary distortion of the results in favor of Democrats or Republicans.
