For repeated violation of the law on “LGBT propaganda” will face from one to three years in prison

The State Duma has prepared an amendment to a new bill on the ban on "LGBT propaganda", which introduces criminal penalties for repeated violations. The authors were State Duma deputies Nina Ostanina (KPRF) and Nikolai Burlyaev from SRZP, RIA Novosti reports with reference to the text of the document.

According to the amendment, the promotion of "non-traditional sexual relations" and/or preferences, expressed in the dissemination of information or the performance of public actions aimed at the formation of "non-traditional sexual attitudes", will be punished by imprisonment for up to one year if the person already has an administrative penalty under the same article.

Also, if the amendment is adopted, Russians can be sentenced to corrective or forced labor for up to one year, or to arrest for up to three months. For a repeated violation using the media or the Internet, they plan to be imprisoned for up to two years. And for “LGBT propaganda” among minors, in case of repeated violation, they will be punished with correctional labor for up to two years, or forced labor for up to three years, or imprisonment for up to three years.

The bill to ban "LGBT propaganda" in the media, books, the Internet, advertising and cinema was adopted in the first reading and is being prepared for the second. State Duma Speaker Vyacheslav Volodin did not rule out that there would be   tightening amendments   to the bill for the second reading. At the same time, The Insider drew attention to the fact that the document does not contain any definition of the word "propaganda". This allows deputies to invent new bans that will likely affect not only media reports, social media posts and video games : the current version of the law will allow fines for anyone whose lifestyle seems wrong to the authorities.
