NYT: Differences within the US administration over whether to pressure Ukraine to end the conflict through negotiations: Chief of Staff Milley calls for a diplomatic solution, while Biden’s advisers and himself say it’s “too early.”

According to the newspaper, in meetings, Milli says that Ukraine “has achieved about what it could have expected before the onset of winter,” the intensity of fighting in the cold months may decrease, and the likelihood of further fundamental changes will decrease – so Kyiv should sit down at the negotiating table.

According to Milli, it is necessary to work on a political settlement, since a military solution to the conflict in the near future may be unattainable.

Other senior officials, NYT sources say, believe that neither side is ready to negotiate and the pause will only allow the Russian military to regroup.
