The abandoned bodies of Chechen fighters, the capture of Pavlovka at the cost of the lives of 500 Russian soldiers, Zelensky in Kherson. What’s Happening on the Front Line

The capture of Pavlovka by the Russians and 500 dead soldiers

The Ministry of Defense of the Russian Federation reported on the capture of the village of Pavlovka near Ugledar (Donetsk region). “On November 14 of this year, as a result of stubborn fighting by Russian troops, the settlement of Pavlovka of the Donetsk People’s Republic was completely liberated,” the Russian Defense Ministry said. Two days earlier, on November 12, Ukrainian journalist Yuriy Butusov wrote that Pavlovka was under effective Ukrainian fire control.

There were fierce battles for Pavlovka. On November 6, it became known that the Russian marines advancing on Ugledar announced the loss of 300 people in a few days and complained about the command. Soldiers of the 155th Separate Guards Marine Brigade of the Pacific Fleet of Russia handed over a letter to the Governor of Primorsky Territory Oleg Kozhemyako with a request to send a commission to the place to stop a poorly planned and unprepared attack on the positions of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.

On November 14, immediately after the announcement of the Ministry of Defense of the Russian Federation about the capture of Pavlovka, the media reported that the brigade received a "severe reprimand" for Kozhemyako's complaint about heavy losses. For publicizing the situation, they were intimidated, and then, as a punishment, they were sent to storm. According to one of the military, another 100-115 people died during the assault on Pavlovka. In total, there are allegedly 450-500 dead in the brigade.

The Armed Forces of Ukraine were able to return the city under their control in the summer, but now the situation is difficult for the defense. According to military expert Leonid Dmitriev, Pavlovka is important because it is a fire control point for Volnovakha.

“If Volnovakha is “turned off”, then the supply of the southern group will be impossible either by rail or even from Mariupol. Approximately two-thirds of the supplies to the southern group, if not three-quarters, now go through Volnovakha. Because the Crimean bridge is functioning, but not as strong as it should be. Why Pavlovka is important – this is a point for fire control, put another front line there. The Armed Forces of Ukraine are getting closer and closer.”

“The meaning is obvious: Pavlovka is the direction to Olginka and further to Volnovakha. And this is a major communications hub that allows you to develop an offensive both to the south and to the east-west, ”says military expert Sergei Grabsky.

Fights for the Kinburn Spit

Contradictory information is received about the battles for the Kinburn Spit. It is located between the Dnieper-Bug estuary and the Black Sea. The pro-Russian Telegram channel Romanov live reports that it has come under Ukrainian control. At the same time, the Russian propaganda channel Russia Today reports that the spit is still under the control of the Russian Armed Forces. According to the RT military correspondent, “there was the only attempt to land on the Kinburn Spit from boats plus landing. The corpses of people who tried to swim are still somewhere in the sea, they are now gradually being nailed to the spit.”

According to the Conflict Intelligence Team, at 15:00 on November 14, the Kinburn Spit was still occupied.

The liberation of the spit and the peninsula will allow the Ukrainians to unblock the ports in Nikolaev, Kherson and Ochakov. It is also another strengthening of Ukraine's positions in the Black Sea. From positions on the Kinburn Peninsula, the RF Armed Forces constantly fired at the port point in Ochakovo and Nikolaev. Nikolaev port is the largest in Ukraine in terms of cargo transshipment.

According to Ukrainian media, the ships of the Black Sea Fleet did not prevent the Armed Forces of Ukraine from occupying the spit, as they did not go out to sea from the waters of Sevastopol after the attack by unmanned kamikaze boats.

Under whose control the spit is not known for certain at the time of publication of the material.

Zelensky's visit to Kherson

President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky arrived in the liberated Kherson. This was reported by Reuters, citing eyewitnesses at the scene. According to the agency, Zelensky spoke to the Ukrainian security forces. The Kremlin declined to comment on the visit by the President of Ukraine to the territory that Russia annexed in late September, declared as its own territory and included in the Constitution.

Zelensky's visit coincided with a meeting between US and Russian intelligence chiefs in Turkey for face-to-face talks between the US and Russia. The meeting is reportedly dedicated to preventing unintended escalation and will not include discussion of any resolution to the conflict.

Military analyst Def Mon draws attention to the fact that with the departure of the Russian Armed Forces to the left bank of the Dnieper, Ukraine has already liberated 52.5% of the territory that Russia has occupied since February 2022.

SBU found bodies of Chechen fighters abandoned near Kherson

The SBU found about a dozen bodies of dead soldiers in the liberated territory of the Kherson region. This was reported by Ukrainian military journalist Andrey Tsaplienko in his Telegram channel. According to him, these are fighters of the 94th Special Purpose Regiment of the Russian Guard (Urus-Martan of the Chechen Republic). The unit stood outside the village of Novaya Kamenka in the Berislav region, and when Ukrainian troops approached, the Chechens retreated, leaving the dead in the field, writes Tsaplienko.

Putin hurries offensive in Donetsk region, a mistake that Ukraine should exploit, writes the Institute for the Study of War

“The Russians are resolutely not trying to establish and strengthen defensive positions along the entire line, but are resuming offensive operations in the Donetsk region,” ISW experts state. The Russian command does not cease fire, which does not give the RF Armed Forces time to restore and train the mobilized Russians. There is no reason to predict that poorly trained, poorly equipped, unmotivated and low morale Russian reservists will be able to stop Ukrainian troops, the report says.

According to ISW, Putin is in a hurry to bring down the emotional upsurge of the Ukrainians after the capture of the Ukrainian Armed Forces of Kherson. From a military point of view, he is making a mistake, experts warn. Ukraine should take advantage of this by continuing the counter-offensive "under conditions much more favorable for Kyiv than for Moscow." In their opinion, winter conditions will be much more favorable than the "dirty conditions" in which the fighting is now taking place. "Fighting is likely to intensify rather than subside as temperatures drop," the ISW warned.

A citizen of Zambia died in Ukraine, allegedly recruited by PMC Wagner in a Russian colony

In the Donetsk region, a 23-year-old citizen of Zambia, Nathan Nyirend, who studied in the Russian Federation as a nuclear physicist, but in 2020 was sentenced to 9.5 years for possession of drugs, died. Nyirend's body has already been transferred to Rostov-on-Don. The Zambian Foreign Ministry demanded to explain how a Zambian citizen ended up in a war in Ukraine.

“In connection with this extremely unfortunate development of events, the government of Zambia demanded that the Russian authorities urgently provide information on the circumstances in which a Zambian citizen who was serving a prison term in Moscow could be recruited for the war in Ukraine and died after that,” the head of state said in a statement. Ministry of Foreign Affairs, which was published by journalist Samira Savlani.

Events on the front line

Ukrainian media report on the liberation of Makeevka near Svatovo. The information was also confirmed by the pro-Russian Telegram channel of the military envoy Semyon Pegov.

“Yesterday, during the most difficult battles, our troops had to leave the village of Makeevka and retreat. Today, the enemy continues to press from this direction towards the Kremennaya-Svatovo highway. Also, the Armed Forces of Ukraine through the territory of the Serebryansky forestry, south of Kremennaya, approach the outskirts of the city and fire from the direction of the forest, revealing our defenses. Thus, the enemy acts on the Kremennaya encirclement from two directions. As expected, the enemy is conducting active offensive operations on our sector of the front. Apparently, pulling up new reserves.

There are also reports of explosions in Naked Pristan. As local residents comment, it probably "flew" to the warehouse with enemy ammunition outside the city – in the direction of Novaya Zburyevka. As of 15:53, explosions continue, eyewitnesses note a powerful detonation of shells, Ukrainian media report . Huge clouds of black smoke are visible above the city.

Russian media report on the capture of the Russian Armed Forces of the village of Opytnoe in the Donetsk region, near the long-suffering settlement of Peski, there is a video of the free movement of the Russian military in the settlement.

OSINT analyst Tim Earhart has published satellite imagery showing that the Russian military has set up a new military base in the southern part of the Kherson region, near Armyansk. The distance to the nearest territory controlled by Ukraine is about 70 km. Recall that the firing range of M31 ammunition for HIMARS is 85 km.

Photos of destroyed Russian equipment in the Kherson region have been published. According to CIT analysts, it was mostly destroyed a long time ago, a few months ago. Such a large amount of abandoned equipment, as was left during the retreat from the Kharkov region, is not visible. However, among the abandoned equipment, there was also a Grad installation with a full package of rockets.
