The main director of the Vakhtangov Theater Yuri Butusov resigned. Earlier, the artistic director, who opposed the war, left the theater

The main director of the Vakhtangov Theater Yuri Butusov decided to quit, now he is in Paris and in the near future "will not be able to continue working." This was reported to Interfax by the director of the theater Kirill Krok.

The director claims that the theater did not terminate the contract with Butusov, he himself wrote a letter of resignation.

Earlier, the Kemerovo Regional Drama Theater named after Lunacharsky pasted on the poster the name of director Rimas Tuminas, who spoke out against the war on February 27.

“For all that I hate, like everyone else, death, the senseless death that is happening these days, I, as a person, do not accept and do not justify what is happening. And I feel sorry for the people who became hostages of this tragedy, ”said the director.

In May, Tuminas left the post of artistic director of the Vakhtangov Theater. Shortly before this, pranksters Vovan and Lexus published a recording in which the director allegedly agreed to stage a play about Stepan Bandera. Tuminas stated that the tape had been edited.

In mid-September, the Vakhtangov Theater canceled screenings of Tuminas' War and Peace at the Alexandrinsky Theatre. As RBC reported with reference to Krok's letter to Aleksandrinka director Sergei Yemelyanov, the decision was made "for technical reasons." In the Vakhtangov Theater itself, Tuminas' performance "The Wind Noises in the Poplars" was canceled without explanation.
