In the Novosibirsk region, a man with a disability said that under torture he confessed to setting fire to banners in support of the war

Dmitry Karimov, a 22-year-old resident of Krasnoobsk, Novosibirsk region , said that he was tortured to confess to setting fire to two banners in support of the war. Karimov has a disability of the 3rd group for hearing loss, as well as impaired functions of the central nervous system.

According to him, on October 14, five masked men detained him on his way to college. They dragged Karimov into the car and pressed him to the floor with their feet, after which they drove him into the forest. “They started to scare me and beat me with a stun gun. They persuaded him to confess to setting fire to the banner at the House of Scientists. I shouted, called for help, said that I did not do this! They told me that they would shoot me according to the laws of war, and offered to convey the last words to my parents. I was scared to death and said that I confessed to everything, ”Karimov told the NGS publication.

On the day of his arrest, Karimov's apartment was searched. The police seized the computer and storage media. The man himself was returned home in the late afternoon. He was diagnosed with bruises and abrasions from exposure to blunt objects on his arms and legs, as well as abrasions and burns on his shins. According to Karimov, the burns are traces of a stun gun.

The first arson he "confessed" to took place in August. The second – on the night of September 30. On November 1, a criminal case was initiated under Part 2 of Art. 167 "Deliberate damage to another's property." The NGS writes that in the case file there is a recording from surveillance cameras, which shows how a man sets fire to a banner and runs away from the place of the action. He was wearing the same glasses as Karimov.

“There is no significant evidence in the materials of the criminal case that testifies to Karimov's involvement in arson, except for his confession. Karimov, due to his characteristics, cannot move like a real arsonist (judging by the footage from the cameras), they have completely different physiques, ”Karimov’s lawyer Yury Golubitsky told the NGS. He also said that the investigation appointed his client a psychiatric examination.
