Qatar bribed Ecuador's players to lose the opening match of the 2022 World Cup, Amjad Taha, a journalist and political commentator and regional head of the British Center for Middle East Studies, said on Twitter.
“Qatar bribed eight Ecuadorian players for $7.4 million to lose the match (0-1, goal in the second half). Five insiders from Qatar and Ecuador confirmed this. We hope this is a lie. We expect that the dissemination of this information will affect the result. The world must confront corruption in FIFA,” wrote Taha.
The 2022 World Cup will be held in Qatar, the tournament will open on November 20 with the Qatar-Ecuador match. The matches of the final stage of the 2022 World Cup will be played at 8 stadiums in 5 cities – in Doha, Ar Rayyan, Lusail, Al Khor and Al Wakra.
Qatar and Ecuador are in Group A along with the Netherlands and Senegal.
