A strong explosion rocked a gas pipeline near St. Petersburg

In the Leningrad region, near Vsevolozhsk, there was a powerful explosion on a gas pipeline. After that, a huge fire started. The governor of the Leningrad region Alexander Drozdenko wrote that there were no victims, the causes of the explosion are being established.

“Firefighters and rescuers are extinguishing a fire caused by an explosion on a gas pipeline between Berngardovka and Kovalevo. There is no threat to the population and the spread of fire to residential areas,” the governor assured.

A fire broke out at a gas filling station in the Vsevolozhsk district of the Leningrad region, RIA Novosti reports with reference to local authorities.

Rise writes that the shock wave from the explosion reached high-rise buildings on the outskirts of St. Petersburg. The regional Unified Duty Dispatch Service told the publication that the gas pipeline was a main one. Near this place is a power line and a forest.

Eyewitnesses are posting photos and videos of the fire on social media.

The explosion and fire occurred due to depressurization of the gas pipeline, RBC reports with reference to the Ministry of Emergency Situations. The fire is put out by two rescue teams.

"Rotonda" writes that the fire is visible from both the Nevsky and Krasnogvardeisky districts of St. Petersburg. A resident of a house on Industrial Avenue wrote to the district group that she heard an explosion of such force that "small objects fell from the windowsill."
