Volgograd will be renamed Stalingrad nine days a year

Road signs "Volgograd" at the entrances to the city were replaced with "Stalingrad". The City Duma decided to return the city's "original, heroic name" on holidays, nine days a year, V1 reports , citing the Volgograd administration.

The signs "Beginning of the settlement" and "End of the settlement" with the name "Stalingrad" will be installed at the entrances to the city along the federal highways Syzran – Saratov – Volgograd, Volgograd – Kamensk-Shakhtinsky (on Nezhdanova Street), R-22 "Caspian" ( on Istoricheskaya Street) and along the regional highway R-221 (Generala Romanenko Street).

The signs will be changed on the days “thanks to which the city went down in world history as having repulsed the Nazi invaders,” explained the administration, February 2 (victory day in the Battle of Stalingrad), February 23 (Defender of the Fatherland Day), May 8 (day awarding Volgograd the title of "Hero City"), May 9 (Victory Day), June 22 (the beginning of the Great Patriotic War), August 23 (the day of memory of the victims of the massive Stalingrad), September 2 (the day the Second World War ended), December 9 (Day Heroes of the Fatherland) and November 19 (the day of the beginning of the defeat of the Nazi troops near Stalingrad).

On November 20, the signs will be replaced with the old ones.
