Former US President Donald Trump's Twitter account has been restored. This happened after the new owner of the social network Elon Musk held a corresponding vote in his profile. Unblocking was supported by 51.8% of those who voted, 48.2% opposed.
“The people have spoken. Trump will be reinstated. Vox Populi, Vox Dei (from the Latin “Voice of the People, Voice of God” – approx. The Insider),” Musk wrote. He noted that his survey was seen by 134 million people. Almost 16 million users took part in the voting.
After Musk announced the restoration of Trump's account, Trump himself said he saw "no reason" to return to the social network, writes Reuters. He stated that he will use his new platform Truth Social. According to the former US president, it is more user-friendly and works "phenomenally well."
Trump now has 9.2 million followers on Twitter. Prior to blocking, the number of its readers was 88 million. Musk stressed that Twitter is working to restore all the subscribers of the ex-US president.
Twitter suspended Trump's account in January 2021. This came after supporters of the then-incumbent stormed the Capitol, and the social network feared that Trump would come from "further incitement to violence."
