City manager of Chita Alexander Sapozhnikov resigned to go to war against Ukraine. He has served as mayor since 2019 and resigned of his own accord.
“I made the decision to go where we need it most today – to the zone of a special military operation. As a paratrooper with combat experience, as a citizen, I cannot stay away from the fateful battle of our Motherland for the right to the future that we received from our ancestors. It is my duty and my calling to once again stand up for the defense of our country,” Sapozhnikov writes in his Telegram channel.
Immediately after the start of the “partial” mobilization, State Duma speaker Vyacheslav Volodin said that deputies who meet its requirements should go to war. However, the deputies themselves do not agree with him: United Russia Dmitry Vyatkin believes that he and his colleagues cannot go to war, since “citizens” stand behind them.
