UK hands over Brimstone 2 missile with twice the range of its predecessor to Ukraine – The Telegraph

The UK has sent Ukraine an upgraded Brimstone laser-guided missile with a range twice that of the previous design.

Brimstone 2 missiles, which cost about $207,000 each, can hit targets by tracking a laser fired by troops, aircraft or vehicles. How many missiles the UK has donated is unknown.

The range of a Brimstone 2 launched from an aircraft is about 60 km, according to The Telegraph. As specified in the article, Ukrainian troops use modified ground-based launchers to launch, which can reduce the flight range.

The missiles can also select their own target from a pre-programmed list using extremely high-frequency radar, allowing them to focus on the most suitable targets, excluding civilian vehicles or less important military equipment.

The missiles, along with similar anti-tank weapons sent by Ukraine's other Western allies, were to play a central role in deterring Moscow's military offensive in recent months.
