At the Zaporizhzhya NPP, the tanks with distillates are damaged – “Rosenergoatom”

Rosenergoatom commented on the conclusions of the commission of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), which reported damage to the cooling system of the Zaporozhye NPP. The Russian side clarifies that the containers with distillates, which are located between the fourth and fifth power units of the nuclear power plant, were damaged.

“There are containers with distillates between the fourth and fifth power units. They are used partly as part of the nuclear reactor cooling system and partly for washing certain components and assemblies. It was they [IAEA experts] who called it a non-radioactive leak… <…> Each of these incidents individually may not be critical, but in the aggregate it forms a completely different assessment of damage and risks, ”said the adviser to the general director of the Rosenergoatom concern Renat Karchaa.

Russia blames Ukraine for the shelling, Ukraine blames the Russian Federation.

On November 20, after dozens of explosions near the station , IAEA Director General Rafael Grossi once again turned to the warring parties and called for an agreement and as soon as possible to introduce a nuclear safety zone around the ZNPP.

In September, IAEA experts published a report on the state of the station. They came to the conclusion that all seven nuclear safety rules were violated at the ZNPP and there was a risk of a "nuclear incident" if the shelling did not stop.
