Yabloko activist Maria Volokh arrested for 20 days for rally against nuclear war
An administrative penalty was imposed under the “rally” article (part 8 of article 20.2 of the Code of Administrative Offenses of the Russian Federation). Neither the press nor Maria’s parents were allowed into the courtroom.
The court found it illegal performanceheld November 20th. On that day, four activists put on “chemical protection suits” and lit flares outside the Defense Ministry building in Moscow. They accused Russia and Ukraine of creating a nuclear threat by refusing to negotiate.
Maria Volokh said that she had previously received two fines for “discrediting the army.” Further such action will threaten a criminal case. According to Maria, going to the rally, she knew about one of the “discredit” cases.
