Borrell: Serbia and Kosovo reached an agreement on license plates and prevention of escalation

Serbia and Kosovo have reached an agreement on the issue of license plates and the prevention of escalation, EU foreign policy chief Josep Borrell said .

According to the agreement, Serbia will stop issuing plates with Kosovo city codes, and Kosovo will stop trying to re-register cars with Serbian numbers. Borrell writes that in the coming days he will invite representatives of both countries to talks to be held with the mediation of Germany and France.

The conflict between Kosovo and Serbia flared up with renewed vigor in the summer of 2022. At the end of July, Pristina announced that from August 1, Serbs entering from the territory of Serbia must exchange their documents for local ones, with a validity period of three months. Serbia itself uses the same practice. Kosovo also demanded that the Serbs change their license plates to local ones.
