The Ministry of Culture denied a rental license to the series “Monastery”, which starred Philip Yankovsky and Anastasia Ivleeva (according to the plot, a Muscovite party girl gets into an unpleasant situation with influential people and decides to hide in a monastery).
The department explained that the materials on the series were submitted for expert evaluation to the Russian Orthodox Church – and they said that the script gives a distorted picture of monastic life and forms an incorrect idea of Russian Orthodoxy.
