A court in Minsk sentenced the father of seven children, Maksim Latsuntsevich, to a year and ten months in prison in the Zeltser case. This was reported by the human rights center "Vesna".
The man was found guilty of "inciting hatred" and "insulting a representative of the authorities." He must also pay a fine of 3,200 Belarusian rubles ($1,267).
On September 28, in Minsk, KGB officers in civilian clothes came to an apartment building on Yakubovsky Street to carry out, according to the official version, an anti-terrorist raid. They broke into the apartment where Andrei Zeltser, a 32-year-old worker of the American company EPAM Systems, lived with his wife and young son. The programmer opened fire with a hunting rifle and mortally wounded Dmitry Fedosyuk, a soldier of the Alpha special forces.
After that, about 200 people were detained in Belarus, who left comments about this event on the Internet. Latsuntsevich was detained on September 29, 2021. After recalculating the sentence, taking into account the time spent in custody, he had to serve a little less than a month behind bars.
