Taiwan’s chief of staff, Tsai Ing-wen, announced her resignation as leader of the ruling party, which lost in the local elections.

The victory in most cities and counties is won by the opposition Kuomintang. The Democratic Progressive Party, which until now has been led by Tsai Ing-wen, has traditionally opposed rapprochement with mainland China.

The leader of Taiwan has already left the post of head of the party after the defeat of the DPP in the local elections of 2018, but in 2020 she again led it.
